December 15, 2021 was an exciting day for Civic Works! At 2:30pm, Secretary of Energy Jennifer
Granholm, Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge,
Congressman Kweisi Mfume, Congressman John Sarbanes, and Baltimore City Housing
Commissioner Alice Kennedy arrived at 3501 Brehms Lane to take a tour of the weatherization
and solar training facilities at Civic Works Center for Sustainable Careers. The cabinet
secretaries and congressmen had an opportunity to connect on a personal level with Civic
Works staff and past graduates of our training programs and to shine a light on our work and
our model of success. Our guests were impressed that Civic Works has created pathways to
family-sustaining careers for over 1000 job seekers and lowered home energy costs for more
than 24,000 residents. At the end of their tour, Secretary Granholm stood at the podium in
Civic Works hands-on training laboratory and announced to the press additional funding from
the Department of Energy to expand weatherization services and support local programs like
Civic Works. All 5 of our honored guests spoke about the important impact of energy
affordability and job training on the community.
